Donation Center

Gently used in-kind donations help The Hope Center meet the needs of many hurting people who come to us for help. Items donated may be sold in our thrift stores in Hagerstown and Chambersburg. We keep our prices low to help people on a tight budget. Sales generated from items sold in our stores help to keep our programs and services free for our guests. We also give away many items for free to individuals and families in need. Thanks to your generous donations (food, clothing, shoes, furniture, etc.) we can continue to meet the needs of those in need.

Donation Receipt Info

If you are interested in a receipt for your donations of in-kind gifts for tax purposes then we can help.

To make sure that you are documenting everything appropriately we ask that you consult with your tax preparer prior to filling out a receipt form. Various tax prep agencies require different information so it's important that you provide them with the necessary documentation.

To get an idea of the gently used value of your items go to www.bankrate.com

Below are a few pointers about creating the list of donated items for a receipt.

  • Please provide a list of items donated*

  • We can provide you with form to list items or you can make the list on your own

  • Please include name and address on list

  • Please print information on list

  • Please provide list to us in a timely fashion following donation

  • Donation trucks do not always have donation forms available at pick-up

*The more detailed the list the better for your personal documentation. When listing items be sure to include how many of each item was given i.e. shirts (2), pants (3), shoes (1)

For any questions please call us at 301-739-1165.

We Need Volunteers!

We are currently looking for volunteers for our Donation Center sorting operations. Our 'Sorters' are an important, behind-the-scenes part of The Hope Center. They sort through items donated for placement in our thrift stores. Along with sorting, our volunteers help to price and prepare items for our stores.

This volunteer opportunity provides flexible hours in a safe, welcoming environment. To learn more, please email us at volunteer@hagerstownhopecenter.com or call Michelle at 301-739-1165.
